Cracks
The icy shell of clouds cracks at dawn
as newness crumbles to life inside
The landmarks shift away from where they are
as I lose myself in futile hopes
The blooming trees, the singing fowls
the caring folks, the looming deaths
the varnish of our society has cracked
and nothing will remain save lies and tombs
Do not pretend to know what it feels
to be entombed in a pit of anxiety
Do not promise to change where you stand
on issues of life and death
There's nothing we can do but wait
				and wait
till nothing remains save lies and tombs
There's nothing we can do but wait
				and wait
till our way of life's at stake
				The icy shell of clouds
				cracks at dawn
				like our way of life
				The landmarks shift away
				from where they are
				like our way of life
And as newness crumbles to life inside
I lose myself in timid hopes of change
				and the skies brighten
				and the air warms up
				and my thoughts run wild
until on my face a smile does crack
